We are priviledged to have the following experienced teachers teaching at Fourways:

Kerry Weavind

I have always been curious about my mind and behaviour as well as that of others, I have been an observer. I realised however, that the observations were merely filed into my sub-conscious mind without the relevant next step required to turn the observations into wisdom. I also realised that reading books about life had little to offer in terms of practically changing life and so found myself at an ashram in India in search of these tools.

Yoga is not the only path. For me though, it is a creative process of expression and constant learning and playing, of living life gracefully and laughing when it doesn't work that way. I love the mystery, I love change, I love the intrigue that body and mind and maya (illlusion) create to make my living experience a gift constantly being unwrapped. This is what I offer in yoga classes.

I have been teaching yoga since 2001 and founded The Haum of Yoga in 2003. My teacher certification was awarded through The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center, India in December 2001 and the advanced certification in 2010. For 2,5 months in Mysore, India in 2003, I officially deepened my journey in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system.

I am strongly influenced by the Sivananda training, by Acharya Venkatesh of Atma Vikasa Yoga in Mysore who strongly focus on yoga as a complete system beyond just the asana as well as sage Krishnamurti who delves into the philosophy of LIVING.  Through my own journey, IndiYoga was created as a practical tool for turning observation into wisdom - using the asana practice as the microcosm for the macrocosm of life. Whatever happens on the mat - one's freedom, limitation, internal dialogue, perceptions and belief systems - happens off the mat and practicing equanimity or transforming observation into wisdom on the mat is a great skill for life!

I love Vipassana meditation courses, metaphysical studies, art, voice, these are things that help take me further on my path.  The inner exploration of the body through movement, metaphysics, ego and everything are a big part of this self-study, which add to what I have to offer as a teacher.

What a priviledge it is to teach Yoga, to study Yoga and to live Yoga (which by no means means perfection, it means practice).

Jolandi Van Niekerk

We are all born with unlimited potential, but sadly we are usually responsible for limiting our own potential by either listening to the judgments of others or giving in to our own doubts and fears. The strong yearning in my soul to discover my own inner knowledge of what is right and true for me in life, eventually led me to the discovery of yoga. Within this new found discipline I learned how to care for myself on both a physical and spiritual level. Yoga has the ability to make us aware of the interconnectedness of our minds, bodies and souls, and once awareness becomes part of one's life, change and growth becomes inevitable. Enrolling in and completing the teacher training course at Haum of Yoga proved to be a life changing experience for me.

My aim as a yoga teacher is to make the gifts yoga has to offer available and accessible to everyone. These gifts include an experience of inner peace, calm and joy through asana practice as a respite from the stressful and often chaotic world we live in. Honouring oneself and the body one was given by spending time on the mat to re-connect with one's own uniqueness, is one of the greatest gift one can give oneself.

Witnessing the growth and joy of students when they discover yoga as a powerful tool that can help to improve the quality of their lives, is both rewarding and inspiring to me. I not only love spending time on my mat, but find that meditation and chanting bring clarity, peace and focus to my life. I am trying my best to hold the following words of Swami Niranjananda close to my heart in my quest and yearning for more knowledge: "Knowing a lot has no meaning in yoga. Applying whatever little you know has great meaning."

Melanie Castleman

My practice started in 2001 when I discovered that all I needed to do was tie myself into a knot to feel at peace ;) After a few years I had completed two teacher trainings, 2004 YYI (Iyengar based), 2005 Hatha (Haum of Yoga) as well as many workshops/immersions with various international and local teachers.

After experiencing many different styles of yoga my passion lies in Vinyasa,  it allows me the freedom to combine my favourite aspects of other styles into one while adding my own personal “twist”.
I enjoy discovering ways of stringing and infusing postures into a sequence that inspires and changes our way of habit, liberating body, mind, and spirit.

Paul Boyter

I started yoga at a young age with my mom, so yoga represents an element of my youth and brings with it that playfulness to try new things again, to take each pose with grace and to use my body and breath as one.

Since 2009 I embarked on following this dream by studying alternative medicine through the international school of reflexology and meridian therapy and by completing a yoga teacher training at The Haum of Yoga in 2010, these are the first stepping stones to finding out how to help myself and others.

I hope to learn from students and to inspire them to find their true nature.

Kristy Snyman

Kristy has always been passionate and fascinated with the mechanics of the human body.
After a career in dancing and teaching pilates she was drawn to yoga.
However, for Kristy, yoga is much more than just an asana practise it is an uplifting lifestyle.
Through the yoga principles and time spent on the mat she has learnt the beauty of inner stillness
and the importance of living  every minute with love ,grace and gratitude.

Maria Cussell Humphries

Maria has been practising yoga for the past two years, and studied to become accredited as an Indi-yoga teacher in order to deepen her practice.

She was drawn to yoga because of its amazing ability to bring together mind, body and soul, and because yoga is unique as a form of exercise, leaving you more energised rather than less at the end of it.

She is an executive coach and uses yogic principles and asanas as a key part of her coaching.

Maria has worked in the banking industry for the past 20 years, and is currently teaching yoga at Absa, as part of their Employee Wellness offering, as well as teaching through the Haum of Yoga.

She is married with two children, aged 15 and 13, both of whom are keen yogis.

Brian Wagner

Brian has been teaching yoga for the past six years. He combines a metaphysical understanding of the body to his teaching and teaches with compassion and a sensitivity to each student.
